Agents Of Time Drop Atmospheric ‘Prince Of The Stars’ EP

The dreamy Prince Of The Stars EP by Agents Of Time will take you from your couch to the club and then to somewhere truly unexpected!

Since 2013 the Italian trio Andrea Di Ceglie, Fedele Ladisa, and Luigi Tutolo, better known as Agents Of Time, have been brewing up dancefloor beats. Over the years they’ve received support from some terrific names including Tale of Us, John Digweed, and Stephan Bodzin while releasing on Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio and Kompakt, as well as their own Obscura imprint. Now they’ve partnered up with Guy Gerber’s Rumors label for the Prince Of The Stars EP.

First experiencing Agents Of Time at Cityfox Live just before the pandemic shutdowns overtook the entire scene unfortunately I hadn’t made a point to catch their set in full. I only heard a few tracks that night, but what I heard had me wanting more, and when I listened to the new Prince Of The Stars EP, I was quickly hooked.

Clocking in at five tracks in total, Agents Of Time have described this EP as one that’s “drenched in dreamy downtempo atmospherics,” and I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s quite the ride from start to finish, so give it a spin on Spotify or your favorite platform and read on for a deeper dive into the release from this trio of artists!

Prince Of The Stars opens in a very subdued manner, but have no fear as it builds into everything you’d want for the club!

The opening track, “Mud Battles,” is a soothing soundscape that starts off very relaxed, and soon provides lots of depth by the end of the track. While there’s no doubt you’ll shift from sedentary to dancing by the end of the track, it’s definitely more of a mood adjuster to get you ready for the tracks that follow. It’s a truly ideal setup.

As we progress to “Rise To The Power” things start on a similar note, but the beat picks up and a layer of percussion comes in pretty quickly. They give way to a melodic breakdown, which repeats itself in a longer break that teases the listener into a drawn-out build that is curiously playful. The warbling melody plays with a few variations as the song winds down. This is the kind of track I’d love to hear late at the club, as the crowd thins, but the music is begging me to stay (which I will, of course!).

The title track opens with what sounds to me like an ambient coffee shop soundtrack I’d listen to while working.

It’s intriguing, especially so as the beat, and then the synths, build in, leaving the coffee shop humming in the background. While I wouldn’t call the track familiar, there is something very comfortable about it like being wrapped in your favorite blanket or warm hoodie. The broken beats continue right through “The King Of Our Days” which is about as mainstream a track as you’ll get from the trio.

Closing the EP is the acidic “Jimmy The Jester” and just be forewarned that this track is not included on the vinyl copy, only the digital edition. From the opening beat, I knew this song was something special. Wait, was that a sneeze in the opening build for a transition in the rhythm!? You’ll need a little patience, but from the moment the acid sounds come in, there’s no telling what’s next from that point until the end. This is a personal favorite that I’ll have on replay for the next few days!
