With the dive into digital in full swing for 2020 thanks in no small part to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is refreshing to see promoters still interacting with their worldwide audience. Enter European techno behemoth Awakenings – who would be celebrating another edition of the fabulous Awakenings Festival at the end of the month were it possible. While it is not going to occur this year, they have not sat idly by, and took to their typical home in the Netherlands – the famous Gashouder Westergasfabriek – for a show unlike any other.
Hosting events ranging during Amsterdam Dance Event, Easter Weekend, New Years, and more, Awakenings brought techno heaven to the cylindrical dome more than once. Now, for 2020, they are poised to deliver yet again, but this time in the virtual realm with Awakenings Online Weekender. Calling in talents like Amelie Lens, ANNA, Joris Voorn, Speedy J, and more, the artists set to take the stage are simply sublime.
There’s no doubt that techno fans should be excited to see what the experience in full will bring at the end of the month. It is worth noting as well how unique this festival will wind up – as the stage and design could only occur in this manner due to the pandemic. With no crowd around, the whole space could become an arrangement unlike any other with lights, LEDs, pyrotechnics, and more spread around the floor creating a true floor to ceiling spectacle.
