When the coronavirus pandemic took hold of the dance music scene only one superhero could fight back and keep us clean: DISINFECTO.

If you’ve tuned in to at least one of livestreams hosted by Insomniac Events during the quarantine, then you may already know who the man behind the Lysol spray is. Since emerging from the shadows during the Beyond Wonderland Rave-A-Thon, DISINFECTO has appeared at the end of every DJ’s set to sanitize the equipment and fight back against the spread of the coronavirus.

Quickly becoming a fan favorite for those who have tuned in on Twitch and YouTube, DISINFECTO has battled the virus with a bevy of tools in his arsenal ranging from wipes to Lysol spray. Even though he doesn’t say much, his role is one of the most important on the stream. He’s even gained the respect from Insomniac’s Founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella who constantly interacts with him to keep headliners entertained while the crew prepares for the next DJs performance.

Now, after weeks of preparation for the biggest showdown of his tale so far, we caught up with DISINFECTO to learn more about his origin story. So read on to get to know him ahead of the EDC Las Vegas Virtual Rave-A-Thon this weekend and find out how the superhero we all need in these dark times came to be.

Hi DISINFECTO, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today in between cleaning the decks at Insomniac HQ. Let’s start off by digging into your roots. Where and when did the idea behind DISINFECTO first form?

Before the quarantine, while working at ESCAPE, I tripped and fell into a vat of PURELL. Being sanitized that much at once gave me super cleaning powers that I had no idea what to do with. Once the virus spread and the quarantine happened it became imminent where my powers could be used. At that moment I LEMON PLEDGED my service to the industry. I now live in the darkness only present when I am needed.

We have to know, what special equipment are you packing in your utility vest to help keep those decks spotless and germ-free? And what is your estimate on how many cleaning products have you used over the past month and a half?

Since the virus mutates every chance it gets, the DISINFECTO research and development team at Insomniac HQ are devoted to developing the latest and most advanced cleaning and sanitizing devices the world has ever seen. The process of making these products are closely guarded and kept deep inside the Insomniac Vault. These devices include but are not limited too; disinfectant sprays, gels, grenades, and lasers.

When you’re not cleaning the decks you’ve been able to catch some sets, too. Has there been a performance that has stood out to you the most so far? Which virtual festival has been your favorite so far?

I am watching every set but don’t have a favorite. During the sets, I am using the new Anti-Virus Laser System or “AVLS”. This highly advanced laser system targets virus particles in the air vaporizing them creating a safe environment for the DJs and crew. Using this system is my favorite part of the sets.

With so much love for DISINFECTO behind the decks have you considered starting a DJ’ing career? Which genres would you mix?

As far as DJing goes, you will have to wait and see.

Where can your biggest fans show you love and follow you on social media?

You can follow me on Twitter and Instagram: @iamDISINFECTO

Finally, if you could share a message to your devout followers and others in quarantine who have tuned in during these trying times, what would it be?

My final message: As we’ve seen, the world can change in an instance. If we want to survive, we need to adapt and respect one another. No one is above anyone; we are all human. Stay safe and we will all get through this together.
