First Encounters DJ Competition winner Bigstabes made a heart-pounding guest mix to get us all hyped up for Phoenix Lights 2019!
Evan Stabley aka Bigstabes grew up in Mesa, AZ but now lives in Tempe to attend ASU. Prior to falling in love with dance music, he grew up loving bands like Blink-182 and A Day to Remember. After discovering artists like NGHTMRE and Flosstradamus, he continued his path into the realm of electronic music and found his true passion to be bass house. A genre that he describes as “allowing people to dance, headbang, and move while still having lots of energy.”
It was just two years ago that Bigstabes attended his first festival, and his journey into the world of DJing began last January. Attending plenty of events and festivals while also honing his skills, he has come to find the dance music community in Phoenix to be welcoming, tight-knit, and supportive. When asked about the scene there, Bigstabes said, “There are tons of local promoters and shows, a thriving desert scene and there’s always an opportunity to jump in and start DJing and become part of the scene.”
Ahead of Phoenix Lights this year, Bigstabes put his name in the running for the First Encounters DJ Competition and took home the grand prize, a chance to play the festival itself! This will actually be his first festival to perform at and it’s clear as ever that he’s very excited.
