What was your first electronic music event?

My first ever electronic music event was a festival! It was Bumbershoot 2016, and while I didn’t catch many of the major EDM artists playing that year (DJ Snake, Marshmello, etc.) I DID manage to see lots of others, like Kygo, Tame Impala, and my favorite: Porter Robinson! That festival was my first ever experience with live music and was the catalyst that led me towards the world of EDM. My first specific concert after that was Porter Robinson and Madeon’s shelter tour, and I’ve been snagging every opportunity to see both them and many others ever since. <3

What/who influenced you to attend your first event?

When my family and I first moved out of our home state of Alaska, we made our way down to Washington. As a way to christen our first year living there, my mother bought my sister and I all tickets to Bumbershoot 2016 as a welcoming gift for us all!

What is one moment from an event that was special and why?

I will never, EVER forget seeing Armin van Buuren for the first time, after meeting an online friend I had known for about a year for the first time as well! My friend Kayla and I met up in Vancouver for Contact Festival 2017 to see artists like Tchami, Destructo, and of course: CARNAGE. It was a hilariously enjoyable night that I’ll never forget!

What is your favorite festival or event?

Although I’ve never been, Ultra Music Festival has always been my favorite just because of the sheer POWER in its lineups every year. It’s a dream of mine to finally be able to go one of these years, both for the experience and for the mass amount of amazing artists they offer for the fest-goers!

What is your favorite electronic song and why?

No doubt, my favorite electronic song has GOT to be “OK” by Madeon! I’ve been jamming out to that track since middle school, every time I hear it the only emotion I feel is pure joy. His album adventure is nothing short of genius, and with Madeon going on tour sometime this year, I hope to hear it live very soon!

Who are your favorite artists?

Definitely the classics: Porter Robinson, Madeon, deadmau5, and Justice, but i’m also a sucker for good techno. Raito, Boys Noize, and Green Velvet are definitely in my favorites. And don’t forget the hardcore: Lil Texas, SOPHIE, and others like Anamanaguchi and Above & Beyond!

What are your favorite genres?

I am in love with the harder genres right now: hardstyle, hardcore, and especially happy hardcore! Trance, techno, and psytrance are also my diehard faves. Just as EDM is always changing, so are my tastes!

What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?

I am consistently a consumer of pretty much everything! I never keep to one side of the spectrum and am always listening to a different song, artist, album, or genre every day. Every time I see an artist I recognize but haven’t heard of, I make a note and listen to their latest album whenever I can. In my eyes, music is to be shared by everyone, and just because you don’t think it’ll be for you at first, that never means you shouldn’t give it a try. I am an experimenter, I am a taste tester, a jack of all trades as should everyone be!

Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself for the readers?

I love you, yes, YOU! Have a fantastic day!
