What was your first electronic music event?
Global Dance Fest in Royal Oak, Michigan 2012. Knife Party headlined and Dillon Francis opened. Feels like forever ago!
What/who influenced you to attend your first event?
All my closest friends in high school and I got super into electronic music our junior year, we had a friend who introduced us to everything: Pretty Lights, Zeds Dead, Bassnectar, GRiZ, and such. Finally Knife Party came to Michigan and we were GEEKED. It was right after the Rage Valley EP came out and we made sure we didn’t miss it.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
I would say one of the most special moments from an event was during my first year at Electric Forest in 2013. I almost left before ever entering the forest because I was so anxious about being at a festival I was making myself physically ill. My friends convinced me to go in and at least watch one set and see how I felt. We went and saw Madeon, and the second he came on stage I felt a huge amount of pressure lifted off of me, all the anxiety faded away and I felt overwhelming happiness. Will never forget how immersed in good energy I felt in that moment!
What is your favorite festival or event?
Deadrocks. Zeds Dead’s yearly event at Red Rocks in Colorado!
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
This is insanely hard to choose lol but I would say Chrome Sparks – “Send the Pain On”. I’m usually more into bass music but this song carries so much emotion and is so incredibly well produced. The music video is just as amazing too!
Who are your favorite artists?
Zeds Dead, Bassnectar, Tipper, Pretty Lights, Liquid Stranger, Odesza, Porter Robinson, Flume, Yheti, The Widdler, G Space, Peekaboo, and Rusko, just to name a few.
What are your favorite genres?
Bass music is my preferred “sub-genre”, I also have a soft spot for funk, house music, and feelsy stuff. :)
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
I just love to make people laugh and feel good, whether that’s at a show or online. The experience of having fun with the people around me means just as much as the music at an event.
