What was your first electronic music event?
I was a sophomore in college and had the opportunity to see Pretty Lights during Glowfest. That was probably the worst crowd I’ve ever experienced, but the music was enchanting and opened my ears to a new world of sound.
What/who influenced you to attend your first event?
Glowfest was advertising all over campus for this Pretty Lights show, and when I went to the website to check it out, I was captivated by their track “Finally Moving”, which would play automatically while visiting the site.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
I met up with some old friends of mine during a Deadmau5 show recently, and while “Raise Your Weapon” was playing during the encore, I was blissfully remembering how I was at that moment surrounded by the people who welcomed me into this culture, to begin with. Six years ago, I was with the same group of friends and we had tickets to see a Deadmau5 show in Bloomington that got canceled. We all decided to dance the night away anyway and I distinctly remember us all dancing together to the tune of “Raise Your Weapon” that night as well.
What is your favorite festival or event?
My favorite festival to date is Buku Music Festival in New Orleans. Their lineup never disappoints and the atmosphere is always so welcoming and fun.
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
This one is hard because I have so many favorites. I’m gonna say “On a Good Day” by Oceanlab is probably my favorite electronic song because it’s like a personal anthem to me. I can be in a low place and this song always keeps me strong.
Who are your favorite artists?
Nero, Deadmau5, Above & Beyond, Moderat, Bassnectar, Jamie Jones, Kaytranada, Mat Zo, Maya Jane Coles, AlunaGeorge, and Little Dragon, to name a few…
What are your favorite genres?
Drum & Bass, Dubstep, House, Techno, Trance, Hip Hop…
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
I feel like my identity is tied to following the music within the electronic community that is not only filled with artistry but also touches your heart in some way. I’m not a club kid, I’m not a raver, I’m just a person in search of the music that makes me tick.
Is there anything else you would like to add about yourself for the readers?
Electronic music is near and dear to my soul, and always will be! When I’m not blasting music and having solo dance parties at home, I spend time pursuing my second love of mixology. A dream of mine is to open a cocktail bar that not only has fantastic drinks, but also has a sick dance floor and the best underground DJs in town.
