From making Lord Of the Rings-esque music for a BBQ sauce commercial for free, to now releasing his brilliant new Bloom EP, ATTLAS has come a long way since his start in the electronic music scene. He first set the stage back in November 2014 when he dropped a remix of deadmau5’s “Aural Psynapse”. It was even speculated that he might have been a a protege of the mau5 himself. However, shortly after Pete Tong revealed his true identity as Jeff Hartford, Canadian producer, DJ, and classically trained musician.
From there, it was a musical attempt to synthesize my influences and aspirations as best as I could.
– ATTLAS, Jeff Hartford
Three six track EP releases (Siren, Scene, & Sin), a number of stand alone singles and a range of high-profile mixes would basically describe his last year. Tove Lo, Aphex Twin, and Rihanna’s “BBHMM” have all had his touch and in fact “BBHMM” was voted 2nd best remix of 2015 by Billboard.
Following the premieres of singles “Ryat” and “Colors” this brand new EP, Bloom, out via mau5trap is a mastery of varying soundscapes. The arrangement is a diverse piece that showcases his vast repertoire. The first single “Shadow Play” starts the EP with an uplifting and addictive melody leading into “Ryat” which is a smooth flowing house track. From there, “Colors” has breath-taking vocals that are sure to pull at your heart-strings. While “I Need You More” is simply understated with drums and rhythms that are mellow yet stand out. Finally “Avenue Road” wraps up the EP with a melancholic tone and haunting vocals.
