Zulu Records have gifted us with two brand new takes on Zero B’s 90’s classic “Lock Up”!
Although the iconic break is unmistakable in both tracks, they are markedly different. The first remix by Ali Wilson & Nick Coles is an absolutely phenomenal mainroom track, that explores the build-ups and melodies of the original. With the hook coming in early on this version, its sound is significantly lighter than the Jonathan Ulysses & Sam Dungate remaster, which carries a more traditional house sound, but it doesn’t lose the bass heavy goodness that made the original such a hit.
Also an absolute banger, the Jonathan Ulysses & Sam Dungate version of “Lock Up,” carries a bassline that I predict is going to become a very familiar one on the international house circuit. The duo manage to amalgamate elements from the original track with their own unique sound seamlessly, the uplifting hook from the original only coming in at the 2 minute mark. This, along with the roaring bassline, make for a deeper version of the classic – lifting the track into a frenzy of innovative house music.
For a label that is constantly pushing the envelope when it comes to house music, this seems like a refreshing take on an Ibiza classic is the perfect start to a summer in Ibiza.
