Those who know Parisian powerhouse Dirtyphonics are more than aware of their savage thrust against the mainstream grain. They’re masters at riding on the forefront of prominent musical trends, then seizing their listeners’ intrigue with stylistic blends of familiar formulas. Their newest track “Holy Sh!t“, just released on Dim Mak Records, is yet another addition to this auspicious trend. This time, Dirtyphonics’ musical alchemy converges with the increasingly popular bass house craze.
Bass house, as it’s widely known, is a genre not entirely new at its roots, but has been re-imagined by artists like AC Slater, Jauz, Ephwurd, among others, as a hybrid of house music and dubstep. It’s difficult to define, as it has no specific parameters, yet retains a distinct flavor.
Dirtyphonics’ rendition manifests as one part house, one part bass and all parts groovy grime. “Holy Sh!t” has distinctive house qualities rhythmically infused with clicks, zips, growls and screeches, then abruptly sliced in half with an epic glottal stop that elicits an obscene bass-face with every play.

About Dirtyphonics:
Dirtyphonics was originally formed in 2004 and began performing live shows just two years after. By 2008, they released their first single “French F**k” which quickly hit the top of the Beatport charts. That same year they were signed to Shimon’s label AudioPorn Music and the snowball irrevocably swelled from there. The band’s distinctly metal influence was well established during their maturation in the electronic music scene, which gave way to their particularly heavy, hard-hitting style and distinct vitality through their robust musical career. They’ve since collaborated with dozens of artists, released tunes to a variety of record labels, and consistently find themselves atop the musical charts.
Their first full length studio album ‘Irreverence’ was released in 2013 and features Steve Aoki, Modestep and Foreign Beggars. With melodic piano instrumentals at one end and spine-shattering bass metal refrains at the other, this impressively eclectic album proves true to its namesake by destroying any vestige of musical conformity. With the passage of time, Dirtyphonics’ increasingly refined technique has amassed an abundant, devoted global following.
Now they tour with but two of their original five members, which has done nothing to inhibit the production of fresh beats and energetic live performances. Each unique addition to their repertoire is done so with striking poise and incisive fervor. Dirtyphonics has been a crucial element within the evolution of the electronic scene, and we can only listen and enjoy as they continue to fracture our musical expectations.
