Jesse Calosso Releases The Incoming EP

The Martinez Brothers’ label Cuttin’ Headz is back with a new release from Jesse Calosso – The Incoming EP, out now on Vinyl and via Beatport. Jesse Calosso is a Bronx-born DJ and producer and part of a tight circle of New York area artists, including The Martinez Brothers and Filsonik, with whom he has a longtime friendship and collaborative history. Eventually, as Jesse and The Martinez Brothers ended up growing up close to each other, the group built a friendship heavily centered around music. Jesse has since toured both individually and alongside the duo, with numerous dates across the US and Europe, including Seth Troxler’s Acid Future in London and Circoloco in Ibiza. Cuttin’ Headz is therefore a natural choice as a home for his newest release. The tracks that make up The Incoming sound like they were made for the intimate dancefloors of Jesse and the Martinez Brothers’ recent parties.

The first track ‘This is 140’ is a strong drum motivated track, with a rat-a-tat snare lifting the tempo to a nice funky groove. It carries a groove that leaves you bouncing your head to the beat, and boasts a very tribal sound to really drive home the beat. ‘9am’ has a solid funky bass guitar line, with some up tempo snares to carry the track along. ‘Scratch That’ is much more melodic, with the New York house rhythm carrying throughout.  The vocals in ‘Scratch That’ only compliment the track, and showcase Jesse Calosso’s skill-set very well. The final track ‘Knockin’ has an amazing blend of punchy bass lines, some solid reverb, and funky snare. The vocals are subtle, and definitely gets the groove going. Tracks like these are something I would love to hear at the Paradise Garage if it were still operational today.
