What was your first electronic music event?
I’ve never been to one before, but I’m looking forward to my first one here in Budapest in April, which will be a small club event headlined by Angerfist.
What/who influenced you to attend your first event?
Angerfist was the artist whose music got me into hard dance in the first place. When I heard that he was coming to my hometown, I knew it had to be him who popped my event cherry.
What is one moment from an event that was special and why?
I can’t tell yet. Probably when I run into Angerfist after or maybe even before his set? I don’t know yet.
What is your favorite festival or event?
No clue yet. :D
What is your favorite electronic song and why?
I can’t pick one definitive electronic song to be my all-time favorite. Instead, I’ll talk about what my all-time favorites for both main genres of the hard dance family are.
My favorite Hardstyle song is The Prophet’s “One Moment”. It’s a mesmerizing experience and it’s one of the first songs that completely stuck with me when it came out. It’s a masterpiece of emotion and energy and nothing within Hardstyle even comes close.
My favorite Hardcore song is the unmatched Ophidian Remix of Lenny Dee’s classic “Forgotten Moments”. This 10-minute behemoth of a track is insane in every way possible. Deep, dark and heavy kicks, an amazing orchestral intro that lasts nearly two minutes before the first beat even drops and the melody. The melody is one of the most recognizable, memorable and simplistically beautiful of all time. I highly recommend anyone listen to it, even if Hardcore isn’t their thing.
Who are your favorite artists?
At the moment my top five, in no particular order, consists of Rebelion, Radical Redemption, MYST, Phuture Noize, and Noisecontrollers.
Noisecontrollers because he is the undisputed god of the hardstyle genre. Radical Redemption is basically the same as Noisecontrollers, aside from the small detail that he’s the god of the rawstyle subgenre of hardstyle.
MYST and Phuture Noize for their amazing sound design and expressive and emotional tracks. And last but not least, Rebelion, because they are the single most insane and hype act that I’ve ever heard of.
What are your favorite genres?
Favorite genres are Hardstyle and Hardcore, followed by the occasional Trance and Techno track, but Hardstyle and Hardcore are by far my favorites.
What do you feel your “Identity” is in the electronic music community?
I’m not sure yet. I know that I found this family of music to be what one could consider their musical destination. I can’t imagine my musical taste changing radically to go back to Metal or Rap, music that I listened to a lot in the past, or go in a completely new direction.
Guess I will just have to wait and see. For now, I will stick to reviewing my favorite Hardstyle albums. Who knows? Maybe one day I can turn this whole shebang into a proper journalistic job?
