The trance scene in San Diego might be on the smaller side of the spectrum, but within the community are passionate members like Nico Hartt who are looking to keep its vibes alive and help foster its growth. This San Diego-based DJ and producer has a deep love for the scene, and he’s continued to make moves both behind the decks and as someone helping lead the charge with his Trancension parties.

As one of the minds behind Trancension, Nico Hartt has brought some of the finest artists in the trance scene to San Diego while also showcasing local talent, helping pave the way for its future. Yet you can also regularly find him performing at other local events, bringing his unique twist on hard trance and techno to nightclubs and underground venues throughout the city. Levels’ 1 Year Anniversary party is the latest show he took the stage at, and he’s gifted EDM Identity with a recording of the set for the latest installment of our Fall Frequencies series.

This mix is a live recording from my set at Levels’ 1 Year Anniversary. It was a fun night with great energy. I was able to road test a couple of IDs, which is always exciting and a little anxious at the same time.

Those looking for their chance to get a dose of Nico Hartt live can do so soon, as he’s taking the stage at San Diego Hardstylerz and Pirate Panda’s Holiday Havok event on December 12. “I’m very much looking forward to joining their party with a hard trance set, which will be a nice end-of-year event for me before we get ready to head into 2026 full of Trancension events,” he said. Those upcoming Trancension shows in 2026 include monthly trance nights at Spin Nightclub on every third Thursday after Headroom Listening Sessions, quarterly Lucent shows, boat parties, and LumiCali, San Diego’s summer trance soiree, which they help with.
