The Ibiza flood caused by Hurricane Gabrielle sidelined numerous establishments. Among them are White Isle staples like Pacha and DC10.
On Tuesday, September 30, torrential rainstorms swept across the Spanish island of Ibiza, leading to hotel evacuations and at least five injuries. It also affected nightlife staples Pacha Hotel and DC10.
A video making its rounds on TikTok shows staff mopping up water on the floor of DC10’s bathroom — but then it cuts to a clip outside, where flooding is visibly severe. “Who knew leaving DC10 would end in being knee deep in water, 5 hours to get home,” reads text superimposed over the footage.
Pacha Hotel, which sits across the street from its namesake nightclub in Ibiza Town’s marina, fared even worse. According to Daily Mail, part of its roof collapsed, leading to another frantic scene as water spilled into the building.
But it was a four-star hotel called Vibra Tropical Garden Apartments that received the brunt of the damage inflicted by Hurricane Gabrielle. A landslide hurled rocks into the building, injuring three, trapping four, and prompting the hotel to evacuate 220 of its guests.
At least two others were reportedly injured on account of the Ibiza flood, one of whom fell into a manhole whose cover had been dislodged. Road closures lengthened trips throughout the island, and the military mobilized to help contain the ensuing chaos.
Ibiza has long stood out as a resort destination for vacationers, especially those from the UK. In the late ’80s, it grew famous for its nightlife, inspiring Paul Oakenfold and his peers to organize seminal acid house raves like Shoom back in London. Today, the White Isle is home to some of the world’s biggest superclubs, including Hï Ibiza and the newly opened [UNVRS].
