Ibiza Rocks to Revise Safety Measures After Three Die Following Balcony Falls

In a three-month period, three tourists died after falling from Ibiza Rocks balconies. The hotel is now exploring more preventative measures.

White Isle hotel and venue Ibiza Rocks has shared plans to rethink its safety measures following the passing of three individuals who fell from its balconies between April and July of this year.

The first was a 19-year-old Italian tourist who reportedly fell to her death from a fourth-floor balcony while looking for her room key on April 27. Then, on July 7, a Scottish man named Evan Thompson died at 26 after falling from a one on the sixth floor, and 19-year-old Scottish hockey star Gary Kelly passed away on July 21 after falling from a third-floor balcony.

Ibiza Rocks paused all events following the lattermost incident. It resumed its scheduled operations on July 26, after its owners released a statement outlining how they intend to address the apparent safety pattern.

“Over the past week, we’ve focused on supporting those sadly affected by recent incidents and paused our events programme out of respect for that process,” the statement reads. “During this time, we’ve taken the opportunity to review the strong safety measures already in place across the hotel and look at where we can go further.”

It continues: “As we always have, we continue to work with independent inspectors, external experts and listen to feedback from our team, guests and the wider community to keep improving and strengthening our approach.”

Not all recent fatalities associated with Ibiza Rocks are due to falls from height. On April 30, a 33-year-old British woman went into cardiac arrest and passed away in her hotel room.

Ben Hemsley, Switch Disco, and Billy Gillies are among the artists slated to perform at Ibiza Rocks events in the coming weeks.
