What Happened to Godzi? Ibiza DJ’s Death Prompts Calls for Transparency

Italian DJ Godzi passed away in Ibiza last weekend. His father is pressing local authorities to look into the circumstances around his death.

Italian-born, Ibiza-based DJ Michele Noschese aka Godzi died sometime between Friday, July 18 and Sunday, July 20 following an alleged confrontation with law enforcement. His father suspects foul play.

According to Italian outlet Corrierre Della Sera, local sources alleged that Noschese had thrown a party at his home and his neighbors called the Guardia Civil with a noise complaint. They said that a confrontation ensued between him and members of the national police force, and one of his friends told Italian newspaper La Repubblica that he had been beaten repeatedly while on the ground.

Another witness, this one anonymous, told La Repubblica that Noschese chased a woman and threatened his neighbor with a knife, and the outlet reports that he had been taking drugs and died of “pulmonary necrosis” with no bruises or signs of suffocation. But the Noschese family’s lawyer, Rossana Alvaro, contests the findings.

“The autopsy is incomplete. X-rays and a CT scan are missing to determine the cause of death,” said Alvaro. “We will then evaluate whether to request a second autopsy, to be performed in the presence of one of our consultants.”

The late DJ’s father, Giuseppe Noschese, suspects that local authorities are attempting to cover up his death. “Not a word from the Spanish media about Michele’s case,” the retired doctor said in an interview with Corrierre Della Sera. “I want the truth about what happened. The Guardia Civil contacted me only under pressure from the Spanish government.”

Michele Noschese played soccer with Napoli Primavera and studied economics and commerce before the allure of the White Isle beckoned him. He relocated to Ibiza approximately a decade ago and started working there as a DJ, playing some of the island’s biggest clubs while gigging in a more limited capacity elsewhere. He also ran an imprint called Mood Child that won “Hype Label of the Year” at the 2025 Beatport Awards.

We here at EDM Identity express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Michele Noschese aka Godzi during what can only be a difficult time.
