Fyre Festival 2 will not take place from May 30 to June 2 as planned. It has been officially postponed indefinitely, and no new dates have been announced.
After months of discourse surrounding the rebirth of Fyre Festival, the story has seemingly ended, for the time being, at least. Only two months after tickets went on sale and nearly two before Billy McFarland and his team were set to kick off Fyre Festival 2, it has now been postponed indefinitely.
“The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced,” read the message sent to a ticket holder obtained by ABC News. “We have issued you a refund. Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule.” A screenshot of the ticketing site also surfaced earlier today on Reddit bearing the same message.
Fyre Festival 2 was slated to take place from May 30 to June 2 in Mexico, but reports from government officials repeatedly claimed the festival was not happening. The Isla Mujeres Tourism Board stated days after tickets went on sale that it was “an event that does not exist,” which prompted Billy McFarland to address the claims in a video statement. Then, on April 4, Fyre Festival posted to its official Instagram page that it had been working with the government of Playa Del Carmen, rebuking the government authority’s more recent statement made earlier that week.
“When a government takes your money, issues permits, promotes the event, and then pretends it’s never heard of you, that’s not just dishonest—it’s theft,” the organizers said in the email sent to ticketholders, according to EDM.com. “Due to this, we have decided to move FYRE Festival 2 elsewhere.” Their statement claims that the event is “still on” and they are “vetting new locations.”
Leading up to the news of the official postponement, members of the Fyre Festival subreddit confirmed that Chablé Maroma Hotel, which was listed as an option for the million-dollar ticket package, was no longer working with the festival. Other reports surfaced about refunds, deleted posts on Instagram that claimed big news was coming, and more.
The original starting price for a ticket to Fyre Festival 2 was $1,400 for GA, $5,000 for VIP, and much higher levels, reaching upward of a million dollars for the “Prometheus God of Fyre” package.
Refunds have allegedly begun to be processed for ticket purchasers.
