Yilan aka Mark Bridger, who released on labels like LOFS and Infinite Machine, is said to have committed suicide.

Mark Bridger, a UK DJ and producer who released music under the name Yilan, passed away on February 10 at the age of 32.

According to a statement shared on Bridger’s Instagram account by fellow artist Tom Wood, Bridger died of suicide following “a severe episode of psychotic depression that escalated rapidly.” It notes that the incident resulted from a dramatic downturn in his mental health after years of progress in that area with healthy coping mechanisms.

“He was addressing mental health proactively using a multitude of strategies, including meditation, mindfulness, and journaling amongst other things,” Wood wrote. “From the end of the summer, symptoms of depression had started to develop and this progressed into the winter. Mark was under a lot of pressure and stress which was having an impact on his wellbeing.”

This was further exacerbated when Bridger’s wife, Melissa, suffered a miscarriage. He experienced psychotic depression as a result, which differs from regular depression in that its symptoms can include delusions or even hallucinations.

“Melissa and I strongly believe that it is vital everyone understands that Mark was severely unwell, and that his death resulted from a severe illness,” Wood emphasized. “The pace and scale of his crisis meant that there was no opportunity for red flags to be spotted and it was extremely unlikely that any medical intervention could have happened.”

Mark Bridger released music under the name Yilan at least as far back as 2019, landing on imprints like LOFS, Listening Sessions, and Infinite Machine. Tracks like “Regression” and “Diaspora” stand out as clear examples of his cavernous, contemplative style of UK bass.

Wood chose to treat his announcement as a teachable moment, offering up mental health resources such as Samaritans, Shout, Mind, and Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide. We here at EDM Identity express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Mark Bridger aka Yilan.
