As police investigate a stabbing outside a Downtown Los Angeles after party, the community is raising money for the victim’s family.
The Los Angeles dance music community is in shock after a woman was fatally stabbed outside a warehouse party downtown.
The deceased has been identified as Amanda Torres, or “Dandy Mandi” as her friends in nightlife knew her. According to her family members, she is believed to have been stabbed multiple times at 1am on Sunday, January 26 by a man who was ejected from an event organized by Space Yacht, CYBER RODEO, and UNDERWAR3 before getting maced by security.
“We are devastated at the tragic loss of a community member. Her name was Mandi,” reads a statement shared by all three promoters. “The family of the victim has created a GoFundMe you can find at @JusticeForMandi. Please donate and share to the GoFundMe.”
According to a post on the @JusticeForMandi account, Torres had attended the after party with her brother and friends. Her brother was allegedly attacked by two or three men, and Torres’ stabbing occurred when she came to his aid. The man who stabbed her was reportedly wearing all black, and one of the others was wearing a navy bomber jacket with a white collar lining and glasses.
In response to the incident, Los Angeles promoter FEVER pledged to increase security and medic presence at their gatherings, add metal detectors at entrances, and implement a zero-tolerance policy. Local outfit The LA Raver shared plans to follow in FEVER’s footsteps.
The incident that transpired at Sunday’s after party is not an isolated case. In October, an event organized by techno promoters SXTCY and CLOSER was evacuated after shots were fired outside during an altercation between security and an entrant who had been kicked out.
The fundraiser for Torres’ family has currently amassed nearly $20,000 of its $30,000 target. Donate via GoFundMe and share any tips with investigators by emailing [email protected] or calling the LAPD tip line at (877) 529-3835.
