Fixeer’s specialist brand of techno has graced acclaimed labels like Illegal Alien Records, Soma Records, Molecular Recordings, and Vector Functions.

A DJ and producer beloved among members of Mexico City‘s techno community has breathed his last. Miguel Ángel Mendoza Hernández, known professionally as Fixeer, has died of unspecified causes following a recent health struggle.

London label Molecular Recordings, who signed Hernández’s 2024 EP XX 20, shared the news of his death in a Facebook post on Thursday, January 23. “We woke this morning to hear the sudden death of our Molecular Recordings artist Fixeer,” reads the post. Condolences and strength to his family! RIP my friend.”

A DJ and producer with two decades of experience, Hernández had made a name for himself in the techno world in recent years. Tastemaker labels like Illegal Alien Records, Soma Records, and MindTrip had given homes to his recordings — not to mention Vector Functions, which is run by Mexico City techno figurehead Fixon.

Outside of playing and recording music under his artist project, Hernández taught music production and offered mastering services to countless record labels. His expert touch can be heard on tracks by the likes of Linear Phase, Ana Rs, Dave Wincent, and Lakej.

On January 7, Illegal Alien Records announced a special compilation whose proceeds would help Hernández navigate “a very complicated health situation.” On January 14, MindTrip label boss Pfirter shared in a Facebook Reel that his new remix of one of Hernández’s tracks was for sale to help raise money for his treatment.

From noon yesterday to midnight last night, a memorial was held for Hernández in Mexico City. An English translation of a Facebook post by Fixon following the gathering mentioned that “Miguel left peacefully,” noting that “he didn’t want you to worry, so he asked us to handle it with great discretion and it was something we respected until the end.”

We here at EDM Identity offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Miguel Ángel Mendoza Hernández aka Fixeer during what can only be a difficult time.
