DJ Garth, Doc Martin, and DJ Harvey are among the individuals featured in Martin O’Brien’s upcoming documentary, Between The Beats.
A lot can be said about the early ’90s rave scene of San Francisco, and how it continues to influence dance music markets around the US to this day. On October 15, anyone curious about this seminal era can learn more about it from some of the key personalities who lived it and breathed it courtesy of a new documentary called Between The Beats. Its official trailer just dropped, giving soon-to-be viewers an idea of what to expect.
The two-minute video consists of grainy footage recorded during the nascent years of San Francisco rave, set to the acid and tribal house popular at the time along with commentary from some of the film’s featured interviewees. Doc Martin, DJ Dan, DJ Garth, DJ Harvey, DJ Jeno, Ethan Miller, Joe Haller, and Brian Behlendorf are among those who contributed speaking parts to the film.
Between The Beats is a Gravitas Ventures project directed by Martin O’Brien. He co-produced it alongside Mike Koeppel, and the film was edited by Robbie Proctor.
“Bringing Between The Beats to life was incredibly personal to me as one of the many people who helped create the rave scene in San Francisco,” said O’Brien. “The film was made to take viewers on a journey back to an early ’90s music scene that has since grown into the hugely popular EDM/electronica phenomenon across the globe. I wanted to capture the magic of those early years and celebrate transformational music and the powerfully positive energy among its participants.”
On October 15, Between The Beats will be available via video on demand platforms.
