Ciel, Kiernan Laveaux, DJ Technics, and Dee Clark are among the electronic acts on the Zap Outdoorz 2024 lineup.
Grassroots music gathering Zap Outdoorz is slated to return to Camp Tall Timbers in High View, West Virginia for its second annual edition from August 30 – September 1. Ahead of the 2024 edition, organizers have now shared the full lineup for the event.
Featuring no-frills programming that puts the music first and foremost, Zap Outdoorz billings include electronic artists like Toronto DJ and producer Ciel, Midwest selector Kiernan Laveaux, Jersey club pioneer DJ Technics, and Washington, DC veteran Dee Clark. DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) locals like Gail Force One, Graham Hatke, Joyce Lim, Babypufff, and Joann Fabrixx round out the dance music portion of the bill.
Part of Zap Outdoorz’s appeal is how it pairs DJs with live acts, however. Among the latter are Ekko Astral, Angel Du$t, Flowers for the Dead, Soul Glo, and Mary Jane Dunphe. Beatitude, Flower Factory, and Unbooking are the collectives participating in the three-day event.
Zap Outdoorz debuted last year, originally under the name ZAPATEO and promising “an intimate celebration of electronic & punk music unfolding in West Virginia.” The brainchild of Carlie Webbert and Jake Abel, it was inspired by the primal and universal connection people share when dancing to music in the outdoors. Writing for Nina, Shawn Reynaldo celebrated the first installment of the event for its authenticity in an industry that he argued seldom rewards it.
In April, ZAPATEO’s organizers announced the rebrand to Zap Outdoorz. “Our former name, ZAPATEO, was borrowed with good intentions, but represented a distinct culture that is not ours to appropriate,” they explained in a statement. “We felt compelled to change it, to create our own distinct identity truly embodying who we are at our core.”
