Attendees were asked to exit Movement Detroit 2024 on Sunday evening as festival organizers braced for severe weather.

Update, Sunday, May 26, 10:15pm: Movement Detroit has reopened to ticket holders. Updated set times for the remainder of the evening are available on the Movement app.

Movement Detroit 2024 was going off without a hitch until tonight, the evening of Sunday, May 26. Organizers have asked attendees to leave the event site out of abundance of caution as severe storms and high winds close in on Hart Plaza, where the three-day festival takes place.

“Attention: Severe weather is heading to Hart Plaza. All attendees must evacuate immediately,” reads a post from Movement’s account on X. “Please head to the nearest exit point. We are actively monitoring the weather systems. Stay tuned for updates.”

Video taken at Movement’s Underground Stage during Fatima Hajji‘s set shortly after 6:30pm local time shows the Spanish DJ and producer cutting the music to the dismay of throngs of attendees. A member of the staff asks the disappointed crowd to exit the festival grounds, warning that they’ll get help from the police if people do not leave on their own.

Not long before the evacuation, local news reports indicated that severe storms with strong winds and heavy rains were approaching Downtown Detroit as well as its suburbs. Flooding is one of the main concerns, they said.

Movement, which has attracted an estimated 110,000 revelers in 2024, is not the first festival to get derailed due to inclement weather this year. In March, Ultra Music Festival was forced to end its first night early and start its second day late due lightning storms and strong winds.

It remains to be seen whether Movement Detroit 2024 will resume at any point on the second evening. Day two headliners include Nicole Moudaber, Kevin Saunderson, Richie Hawtin, Sama’ Abdulhadi, and DJ Godfather.

This is a developing story and EDM Identity will provide additional information as it becomes available.
