Kid Cudi Suffers Injury, Ends Set Early at Coachella Weekend Two

While jumping off of Coachella’s Sahara stage, Kid Cudi suffered an accident that required staff to carry him away.

Grimes‘ technical difficulties during Coachella weekend one weren’t the only thing to go wrong at this year’s edition of the festival. Earlier today, Sunday, April 21, Kid Cudi suffered an injury that forced him to cut his performance short during weekend two.

The video recorded during Kid Cudi’s set at the Sahara stage shows the 40-year-old rapper jumping down to the ground from the stage, presumably to interact more closely with fans. He falls down and winces in pain, remaining on the ground for the rest of the clip. Another video shows the “Pursuit of Happiness” singer being carried away from the area by two members of the festival’s staff.

Kid Cudi (real name Scott Mescudi) started his rap career in 2003, first gaining traction in 2007 for his single “Day ‘n’ Nite,” which he originally uploaded to MySpace. He has also garnered acclaim for singles like “Just What I Am” and “Love,” the latter of which samples Ratatat‘s “Sunblocks.”

Mescudi is not the first performer to have a mishap at Sahara during this year’s edition of Coachella. When she appeared during Dom Dolla‘s weekend one performance, Nelly Furtado briefly tripped and fell without sustaining any apparent serious injuries. Meanwhile, Grimes performed a set at Sahara without incident on Saturday of weekend two of the festival after a much-talked-about snafu mired her weekend one set in social media debates.

Kid Cudi has since released an official statement on social media to let his fans know that he broke his foot and had just left the hospital. “Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy,” he said. “I wanna thank u all for ur concerns and well wishes!! I love yall man. I heard yall still ragin when I was offstage. Made me smile big.”

EDM Identity will provide additional information as soon as it becomes available.
