In an inspiring comeback, Michael Bibi takes the stage at Coachella 2024, marking his first major appearance since overcoming a rare cancer.
Almost one year ago, Solid Grooves boss Michael Bibi was diagnosed with CNS lymphoma, a rare type of cancer that affects the spinal cord and brain. This diagnosis forced the 33-year-old to halt his touring and undergo intensive treatment. After five rounds of chemotherapy, Bibi was discharged from the hospital in December of last year and given the all clear to resume his daily life.
Between chemotherapy sessions last summer, Bibi managed to fly to Ibiza and perform an hourlong set at his label’s closing party at DC10 as the special guest. It was a significant and emotional moment, his only performance since his diagnosis. Since that show and after announcing that he is cancer free, Bibi has been keeping a low profile, enjoying a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude for life alongside his loved ones. He has announced a few dates for this summer, though his schedule is less hectic than usual.
His new run of dates kicked off on Saturday night, when he delivered a three hour sunset set at Coachella‘s new Quasar stage. The futuristic venue served as the perfect backdrop for Bibi’s first show of 2024, packed with new music, special guests, and even some surprise drum and bass. His joy was evident and contagious.
As Bibi begins to gradually increase his activity in 2024, you can catch him headlining the One Life events in London and Barcelona in the latter half of the year. A portion of the ticket sales from these shows will go to support The Royal Marsden in London, the hospital that treated him. While it’s unclear what other sets he will play this year, they are sure to be memorable. The support he receives from fellow DJs across all genres, from Tiësto to Lee Foss, is both deeply moving and heartwarming to see.
