Insomniac Founder Pasquale Rotella dropped a not-so-subtle hint that EDC Thailand is on the way.
Where hasn’t rave promoter juggernaut Insomniac thrown a party at this point? Thailand, for one — but that looks to be changing in the near future.
Insomniac promoter Pasquale Rotella confirmed as much during Thursday’s Music Through Music lineup reveal livestream for EDC Las Vegas. While introducing the megamix for the kineticFIELD stage, which consisted of recorded music from its performing artists, he appeared to make the announcement by accident.
“This is the center of EDC, and I always sit in awe at this stage,” he said. “We change the stage design every year — it’s never the same — and then we tour it around the world. We’ve been in China, Thailand — Oh!“
Insomniac employees in the recording studio could be heard shouting in surprise. “We’re going to Thailand,” Rotella admitted. “I’m just going to say it, we’re going to Thailand.”
That begs the question: Is Insomniac’s foray into Thailand definitely an Electric Daisy Carnival event? It certainly seems so. Rotella himself said that kineticFIELD is core to the festival brand, and Insomniac seldom leads with other events before planting the EDC flag in new territory. Not only that, but Twitter and Instagram accounts for EDC Thailand both appear to have been quietly created in July of last year.
Electric Daisy Carnival’s flagship event has taken place in Southern California since 1997, most notably at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Lawmaker pressure forced organizers to relocate to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2011. Today, the event routinely draws crowds in excess of 400,000 across all three days.
EDC festivals have taken place in US states like Texas, Colorado and Florida along with countries like the UK, Mexico and Brazil. In Asia alone, EDC has manifested in Japan, Korea, India, and two places in China.
Insomniac has yet to formally announce any details of EDC Thailand at the time of writing. EDM Identity will update you as more information becomes available.
