Carl Cox is among the “The Chosen Ones,” a group of superstar DJs picked to deliver performances for PRISM.

When pandemic restrictions eased, and nightlife turned back on, most DJs lost interest in digital events. Not Carl Cox. The UK house and techno figurehead has announced Intermundium, a free October 27 virtual event hosted on Sensorium Galaxy‘s electronic music hub, PRISM.

To be fair, though, Intermundium is no regular live stream. Using the Unreal Engine as well as artificial intelligence, extended reality, and motion capture, the event promises a 3D avatar of Cox that interacts with its surroundings based on his music selections. As “Intermundium” means the space between worlds or dimensions, it’s an apt name for the spectacle slated to unfold.

My journey has always been about pushing boundaries, sharing the universal language of music, and enriching the culture of electronic music. Witnessing my avatar for the first time, I couldn’t help but do a double-take. I thought to myself, ‘This is now a reality—or should I say, a virtual reality?’ It’s been fascinating to watch things progress to the point where I can share my experiences with like-minded individuals, whether on Earth or beyond.

Carl Cox will soon be accompanied by the likes of Charlotte de Witte, Armin van Buuren, Steve Aoki, and Black Coffee, who will each host their own event on PRISM. Sensorium has referred to this handful of artists as “The Chosen Ones” in promotional materials.

Embarking on a journey inspired by the Uncanny Valley theory, we delved deep into the realms of blurring the demarcation between reality and the digital cosmos. We questioned the extent to which one could be made to believe that the virtual is, indeed, reality. In this context, ‘Intermundium’ emerges as an immersive expedition into uncharted digital domains, enriched with elements of mystique, fantastical aesthetics, and extraterrestrial perspectives.

Sensorium Galaxy Deputy CEO Sasha Tityanko

Carl Cox’s Intermundium will take place on October 27 at 7pm GMT. You can access it in 2D via the Sensorium Galaxy website, the App Store, or Google Play, and in 3D via Steam.
