UNTOLD Festival in Romania isn’t just one of the best major festivals in Europe; it’s also on a mission to give back.
When the UNTOLD Festival launched in Romania in 2015, it took the festival scene by storm. Hosted in a country with about half the population of California, its attendance is higher than that same US state’s largest festival, Coachella.
Not only is it an enormous gathering, but UNTOLD also won the award for the Best Major Festival in Europe in its first year, a feat never before achieved by an inaugural event. And since the 2019 edition, they have consistently placed in the top ten for various DJ Mag festival rankings. Add in the incredibly broad range of music, and you’d think this is all enough to make this a very special festival.
But that isn’t enough. UNTOLD isn’t just a terrific music festival; it’s an event with a stated mission to give back to its host country of Romania with each passing edition. Each year, the festival contributes to the community in many ways. Here are three of their major initiatives and how they satisfy and exceed this mission.
Student of 10!
For students from Romanian state universities, the most exceptional among them can party at UNTOLD for free! Yep, you heard that right. For the most outstanding students who completed their session with a perfect 10, UNTOLD will provide these distinctive achievers with a free four-day pass to the festival. And for those students who didn’t quite make the mark of a perfect 10 but did pass all their summer session exams, the festival offers a discounted pass!
“Bac de 10”
Taking their commitment to students one step further, UNTOLD’s “Bac de 10” program will also reward a free, four-day pass to those who complete their baccalaureate exam with a score of ten. These impressive students don’t just get the free pass, though. They also get a shopping voucher worth 500 RON from Kaufland Romania. And once again, recognizing that not every student can get a perfect score, those simply passing the exam are also offered discounted access.
The Blood Network Campaign
Launched along with the UNTOLD Festival in 2015, the Blood Network Campaign is the longest and most successful campaign of its kind in Romania. 45,000 donors have contributed 20,000 liters of blood, saving over 60,000 lives. The program awards credits to donors that can be used to purchase festival passes, effectively allowing them to “pay with their blood,” which is a truly needed resource in the country. This truly creative initiative makes so much sense when you recall that Transylvania is the home of Dracula, so using blood as a payment seems quite natural here.
UNTOLD Festival takes place August 3-6, and you can find limited tickets available on their website now!
