Los Angeles-based DJ Sydney G wants to ignite a flame in the depths of your heart on Valentine’s Day with this love-fueled mix.
Sydney Grant has had an affinity for music ever since she was young, but it wasn’t until she caught Swedish House Mafia’s One Last Tour in Los Angeles that she fell in love with electronic music. For years she deepened her love for the scene by attending festivals while working on her degree at the University of Oregon, and later on, she joined the EDM Identity team to cover festivals, review albums, and more. Now, in 2023, she’s making moves as a DJ under the Sydney G alias and is already starting to kill it in the scene in LA.
One thing that always made Sydney G stand out prior to starting her career as a DJ was her sublime tastemaking skills, so it’s a natural fit to see her soar with sets that keep people grooving along with them the entire time. So far, she’s performed at venues in Los Angeles like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Canary Santa Monica, The Buffalo Club, and more, while also tag-teaming the decks with her friend Mer Bear along the way.
Sydney G’s open deck style allows her to shift between different genres and styles as she layers everything from house and techno to disco and R&B into her sets, and she puts that on display throughout the mix she spun for Valentine’s Day. Featuring a plethora of love-inducing tunes, throwbacks, and recent jams, this near-hour-and-a-half-long ride is perfect to play with that special someone you want to catch a vibe with tonight.
When planning out this mix, I realized that I have so many different types of favorite songs about love. Since everybody falls in love differently and everyone has different favorite types of music, I wanted to make sure I included a little bit of something for everyone in this mix. From slow tracks meant to embody what it feels like when you’re first getting to know someone to feel-good vocals that will have you driving with your windows down thinking of that special someone, hopefully, the songs I’ve included resonate with you on that deeper level.
