Rezz’s Darkest Era Takes Shape at the Brooklyn Storehouse

At the Brooklyn Storehouse, Rezz unveiled new music, gripping visuals, and a confident refusal to play it safe during her As the Pendulum Swings Tour performance.

On the eve of a recent winter snowstorm, dance fans in New York braved the Arctic-like temperature to experience the latest era of Rezz. The famed producer, who was in town for her As the Pendulum Swings Tour, brought her meditative techno sound to the Brooklyn Storehouse, a grand warehouse that served as the perfect setting for her new ghastly vision.

The night was in honor of her fifth album, which gives the tour its name, yet it was also a night of discovery, as Rezz spellbound the crowd into uncharted, haunting depths of the electronic genre. She was accessible from every point in the industrial venue — towering above the audience atop a bio-horror altar while a massive rectangular LED screen played arresting horror sequences.

Cold temperatures couldn’t keep fans away from experiencing Rezz’s darkest era yet.

Rezz’s latest work, which she calls her “darkest album” yet, is also one of her most collaborative, teaming up with nine artists, including Dillon Francis, K?D, and her wife, fknsyd. The embrace of these collaborators gives the album range, with each song painting a distinct, shadowed hue that deepens the ominous tone of Rezz’s years-long narrative.

“Prophecy,” the title track, layers the album with a cinematic touch that draws on icy textures and unearthly soundscapes, while “Downward” offers a fast-paced, glitchy production that lends the record serious heft.

Yet it is the song “Telepathy,” which has gone through years of refinement with bass duo Chuurch, that paints a mature portrait of Rezz. Here, the atmosphere of the track is cosmic, as its ominous synths and foreboding bass line are felt in pristine form, creating a tension so unnerving that it feels less chaotic than intentional—a brilliant work that encapsulates Rezz’s growth and marks her new direction.

Leaning into her dark instincts, the producer signals a fearless new chapter.

Unlike her previous Portal Tour, in which the grandiose circular screen was the main draw, Rezz herself is the primary spectacle this time. Her onstage presence was punctuated by the precisely timed lasers, pyro hits, and visuals, all of which held the room in a near-constant grip. Her iconic goggles, hypnotizing as ever, displayed new lighting patterns that added a psychedelic edge to an already immersive visual experience.

The night ended with the premiere of several unreleased tracks, each met with warmth by her trove of fans. To cap a show like this requires vulnerability. The usual and safer option is to close out with a fan favorite; choosing otherwise is an act of confidence. This choice revealed an artist who has transformed, a musician sharing her darkest, most daring music yet.
