Fresh off supporting HAYLA and Maddy O’Neal on their fall tours, Lizzy Jane sheds light on her inspirations and creative process while offering advice to women pursuing music careers.
Tampa-based DJ Lizzy Jane is a prime example of a woman who can do it all. Forming a strong foundation of music theory in her youth, Lizzy spent many hours training as a vocalist, pianist, and bassist. And while she may have started as a fan of electronic music, the talented producer quickly shifted her attention and began learning how to blend her formal education with the electrifying beats of bass music.
Lizzy launched her career in the late 2010s, and her earlier tracks reflect the popular genre of the time: heavy dubstep. Since then, she has evolved her sound, which now spans the umbrella of bass music. “I’m deeply rooted in higher-BPM energy, especially in the drum and bass world, but I still love dipping back into that 140, slow-and-low sweet spot of freeform bass that feels foundational to who I am as an artist,” she explained.
When she’s not busy hosting the Lizzy Jane Podcast on Insomniac Radio, Lizzy is in the studio cooking up new tunes. Her latest single, “Free Fallin’” featuring Joel Cruz, puts her love for drum and bass on full display. While her sonic lane has varied across her releases over the past few years, Lizzy always finds herself returning to the realm that breathed life into her project in the beginning.
Lately, I’ve been reconnecting with my roots through new remixes for Whipped Cream, Jessica Audiffred, and ZOF. These remixes and bootlegs reflect how my sound has matured over the past few years, while still holding onto that wonky, melodic, cinematic sound design that first pulled me into dance music. For me, it’s all about pairing a heavy, clean wub with a quirky, cinematic synth, creating a sound that hits hard while still telling a story in the record.

While her stylings remain versatile, Lizzy’s vocal finesse on each release is everlasting. “My vocals are woven into almost everything I write, acting as another instrument, rather than just a feature,” she stated. A true composer at her core, Lizzy’s soaring vocals add another layer to her productions, creating distinctive tracks among a sea of sameness.
Bass music is getting faster, cleaner, and more genre fluid. I’m excited about pushing that sound without losing the soul of it. I’m really intentional right now about making original records or remixes that hit in a club but still tell a story, create a mood, and have massive dynamic range.

As she continues to create and evolve in a hybrid space within bass music, Lizzy draws inspiration from all corners of the genre. Citing NERO as a major influence, she reflected on the pioneering trio’s impact on dance music. “Their cinematic, emotional approach spans multiple genres, using vocals to drive their tracks even when the sound design is heavy and neuro-driven,” she said. “I’m obsessed with the contrast in their music: the perfect balance of grit and beautiful songwriting.”
Similar to NERO’s emotionally driven productions, Lizzy writes evocative tunes that tap into the wide spectrum of feelings experienced by humans. Looking to carve out her own path, the architect of sound prioritizes evolution rather than chasing trends. Her 2023 single, “Heartbreak,” is a hyper-charged hybrid of trap and future bass elements, the latter being a relatively forgotten sound in today’s shifting music scene. Lizzy brings a refreshing energy through her emphasis on story building and dynamic range, establishing an underlying signature in her works.
I’d describe my sound as high energy, dark yet playful, and crafted for listeners who crave vocal-driven, forward-moving tracks. I’m a bit of a hurricane. My discography at this point spans across so many different genres that I often find my sets ranging from 130 all the way to 175, but somehow the transitions come with ease since my vocals are always at the center of my records for the most part.

As a female fighting her way through a male-dominated industry, Lizzy breaks the mold, doling out vocals alongside intricate sound designs. Discussing her place in the scene, the talent acknowledged the importance of a strong music foundation and a thorough understanding of the technical side, so that no one could question her skill.
As for her advice for women looking to follow in her footsteps, she advised, “Trust your taste and take up space. Focus on your craft with tunnel vision. Find people who support you, collaborate with you, and celebrate your wins. Lastly, women support other women. There’s room for all of us, so don’t listen to ‘the suits’ when they say there isn’t.”
The future is brighter than ever for the Lizzy Jane project. Closing out a year of substantial growth, Lizzy plans to head into the new year focused on conjuring up her next standout song. Before then, though, Lizzy Jane has left us with a holiday treat, cooking up a next-level mix for EDMID.
This mix is really a snapshot of where I’m at right now. It blends some of my older records that I still love, like “Home” and “We’ll Be Fine,” gradually working its way up the BPM ladder to feature new releases from 2024 and 2025, including “Lifeline” with Joel Cruz, and a personal favorite, “Free Fallin’.”

I’m also including some standout remixes from my debut EP that have become absolute staples in my sets — the Blookah remix of “U&Me” and the Jason Leech remix of “Washed Away.” This mix is a ride, and it makes me so happy to share that roughly 75% of it is my own music, whether originals, remixes of my tracks, or songs I’ve written for others.
