“A Techno Ballet Odyssey” at Bootshaus will be followed by an after-show party featuring Marko Nastić, Pauli Pocket, Sudo, and Handmade.
Techno and ballet? Trust us, we thought the same thing at first glance. But enough people seem to think the two mediums can work together that the Berlin Ballet Company is bringing just such an unlikely fusion to Cologne, Germany venue Bootshaus from February 26-28.
Staying true to the collectivism of dance music spaces, “A Techno Ballet Odyssey” will be performed across three platforms set among the crowd. Its three chapters collectively run 70 minutes, depicting a protagonist consumed by the night who is tasked with going on a journey to find himself.
Following a warmup set, the music accompanying the performance will be performed by Marko Nastić, a fixture of Serbian club culture since the ’90s. His performance “blurs the line between classical composition and club energy,” according to a press release.
After that is an after-show party that falls more closely along the lines of conventional techno delivery. The artists slated to perform during this segment are Pauli Pocket, Sudo, Handmade, and Nastić himself.
Bootshaus occupies the remains of a disused shipyard; it has operated under its current name since 2005. Compared to famous Berlin techno clubs like Tresor or Berghain, it bills a larger number of acts who play EDM subgenres like hardstyle, dubstep, or big room house. Midnight Tyrannosaurus, Oliver Heldens, Tiësto, and David Guetta are among the artists who have appeared on Bootshaus lineups.
It remains to be seen whether “A Techno Ballet Odyssey” will add additional showings, whether at Bootshaus or other venues.
General admission tickets to “A Techno Ballet Odyssey” currently run €69.00 ($81 USD). Purchase yours and find additional information on the Bootshaus website.
