Timmy Trumpet to Take a Break from Touring Amid His “Toughest Year”

For reasons he has yet to disclose, Timmy Trumpet is taking a few weeks off from touring and ending his radio show after this week’s episode.

It’s been a trying year for Timmy Trumpet. Back in July, the Australian DJ, producer, and trumpeter was forced to cancel a handful of gigs due to an ankle injury. Now, he says he needs to take a few weeks off for personal reasons — but he’s alluded to them involving his emotional well-being.

“This has been the toughest year of my life for reasons I’m not ready to share publicly,” wrote Timmy Trumpet (real name Timothy Jude Smith) in an Instagram post. All I will say for now is that I have a new found respect and understanding for the importance of mental health.”

The timing works out better than it did when he injured his ankle. Following a Wednesday performance at Trio in Charlotte, North Carolina, Smith has no scheduled tour dates until he performs at NEON Countdown in Bangkok on December 30.

But he also announced that a more significant change will go into effect in the near future. He announced that “this week’s 250th episode of my radio show will be my last,” meaning that the weekly SINPHONY Radio show he started in 2021 has come to an unceremonious close. It remains to be seen whether Smith will revive the series at any point in the future.

Smith has played the trumpet since age four, going on to win a full-ride scholarship to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and perform with the Australian All-Star Stage Band. In the 2000s, he started DJing under the name Timmy Trumpet, fusing instrumentals with EDM. Today, he’s a mainstay of festivals like Creamfields, Future Music Festival, and Electric Daisy Carnival.

“I live for the stage, I live for my fans, but I’m only human and humbly ask for your understanding as I take a breather from everything including social media,” Smith wrote. “LOVE YOU GUYS SO FKN MUCH… brb.”
