According to its official website, Wooking For Love challenges all hoping to participate to “Find Your Forever Groundscore.”
Denver‘s got wooks; there’s no doubt about that. From the Red Rocks parking lot to every dimly lit corner of The Black Box, the quirky subculture has proliferated across the city’s music scene. And a new reality show called Wooking For Love aims to offer a tongue-in-cheek look at dating in this curious community.
According to the upcoming series’ official website, 16 contestants will feature across 12 episodes. They will face “the trials of festival life,” competing in challenges like “flow art choreography,” “stage-hand production,” and “railride to sunrise.” It remains to be seen whether Wooking For Love will be televised or available online only, and the website stops short of outlining the exact format of the competition itself.
Denver tattoo artist LaRue Allegretto hatched the plan for Wooking For Love, which reportedly started out as a joke. In conversation with Live For Live Music, he explained that “we’re gonna be cutting off wristbands instead of giving out roses,” and warned that “you’re gonna be a ground score if you get dropped by your partner.”
Wooking For Love aims to ride the fine line between demonizing drug culture and encouraging it. To that end, Allegretto says he’s enlisted addiction counselors to prevent any harmful messaging from finding its way into the end product.
“We’re not going to explicitly condone or glorify usage, nor are we going to act like it’s not a part of the scene,” Allegretto said. “This is an issue very close to my heart and I was always planning to help highlight it as a real, present aspect of the culture while offering avenues to assistance where it’s needed.”
Thus far, Allegretto says that more than 200 contestant hopefuls have thrown their hat in the ring to participate in Wooking For Love. Live music promoter conglomerate AEG Presents is said to be in talks about a potential partnership.
