Dea Magna stopped by to reflect on her career and unveil her highly anticipated Escape Psycho Circus 2025 set for this month’s Paradigm Shift mix!
Los Angeles has no shortage of talent in dance music. Sometimes, the scene even seems bloated. Still, every once in a while, an artist comes around and shines bright like a diamond in the rough. This is the case for techno DJ and producer Dea Magna, a lifelong fan of rave culture who has been grinding on her project since 2014.
“Before I ever touched decks, I was going to raves and listening to a lot of psytrance and anything high tempo,” she said. “That high‑energy, hypnotic feeling really hooked me early on.”
While exposed to the harder side of the scene at an early age, Dea began as a DJ in the traditional techno scene. As time went on, though, hard techno proved the perfect evolution, combining the speed and intensity she loved in psytrance with the grooves, drive, and darkness of techno.
Once I started experimenting in the studio and then playing harder tracks in my sets, the reaction from the crowd made it clear: this was the lane I was meant to be in. It wasn’t really a planned switch — it was just a very organic progression of who I am as a raver, a DJ, and a producer.

Over ten years later, Dea Magna has solidified herself as one of the key players in hard techno with releases on acclaimed labels, chart-topping records, and heavyweight collaborations. While it’s surreal at times, she’s proud to represent the style on a worldwide scale, feeling a sense of responsibility to add to the legacy of hard techno at home in the States.
“Those of us at the forefront of the genre in the US have a duty to help it really take root here,” she told EDM Identity. As a face of the genre, she aims to “build a proper ecosystem, create opportunities for US artists, and make sure they have platforms to release their music.”
While many American artists look to Europe for guidance, Dea Magna stresses the importance of creating something unique and avoiding being a copy-paste of the international scene. “Our job is to help shape a signature American flavor of hard techno with its own energy, influences, and personality,” she said. “It’s on us [as artists] to make sure the scene in US has longevity — not just hype.”
Dea Magna’s great success came with its own obstacles as she navigated a male-dominated dance music industry. When given the chance to reflect and offer advice for other women in the industry, Dea said, “I want to be honest — you will be underestimated. You’ll probably have to work harder than some of your male colleagues.”
There will be moments where things feel unfair, where you question your sanity and wonder if you’re trying to do something impossible. But if you keep going, there will come a day when you realize — it is possible.

Dea Magna also believes that artistic projects need to be treated as a true business and craft, citing that she often works more than 14-hour days on her project. This means that other artists would also benefit from long hours, consistent work, and constantly improving their skills as a DJ and producer.
At the core of it all, however, Dea says to be authentic and “learn how to tell your story in a way that’s honest and relatable so that other people can see themselves in you and feel inspired.” By staying committed, continuing to learn, and refusing to quit, Dea is confident that artists will eventually find their way.
Dea Magna plans to carry all of her momentum into 2026 and beyond, promising a lot of touring and tons of new music. “I have seven releases already lined up,” she said. “There’s a collab with a trance legend whose name I can’t reveal yet, plus collaborations with Dani Thorne, Rudeejay, David Temessi, Ilyaa, and Redheddi.”
I’ve got an EP coming on Systolic Records, and releases scheduled on DSR Digital and Be Yourself Music. On top of that, I’m starting my own label, which will be a home not just for my music but also for artists who share this vision of hard techno and want to push it forward — especially in the US.

On the performance front, Dea Magna is leveling up her shows by adding a synthesizer to some headline performances. This will allow her to perform hybrid live DJ sets, overlay melodies, do finger drumming, and trigger samples on top of DJing. Confirmed dates for the future already include Dallas and Los Angeles, the latter of which is where she will be opening for Fatima Hajji. “Overall, fans should get ready for faster music, harder sets, and a much bigger global presence from me in 2026 and beyond,” Dea Magna said.
Before Dea Magna takes off into 2026, she’s ending the year with one more achievement under her belt as she kindly stopped by to make her debut on our hard dance mix series, Paradigm Shift! As it’s the final episode of the year, Dea Magna made sure to deliver a special treat for her fans as she is finally sharing her highly anticipated set from Escape Psycho Circus 2025.
