One of the two injured Metropol attendees required treatment at a nearby hospital, according to a police spokesman.
German DJ David Puentez likely didn’t expect for his Friday, November 28 set at Metropol to literally bring the house down. But part of a chandelier did, in fact, fall from the ceiling during his performance, injuring two people, one of whom had to be taken to a hospital.
According to German tabloid Bild, police reported that the lightbulb and its socket fell from an overhead chandelier onto the dancefloor around 10:30pm. It landed on a woman’s head, and also struck a man on the arm on its way down. Audience members promptly informed Metropol’s staff, who halted the event and instructed attendees to leave the area.
“The investigation into the cause of the incident and the responsibility for the condition of the chandeliers is ongoing,” said police spokesman Ömer Kelesoglu. “A broken glass arm with a candle holder was found on the floor.”
“We are sorry that there was an incident in the framework of the event [with] David Puentez on Friday, in which people were also injured,” reads an English translation of a statement by Metropol. “We would like to express our apologies to all visitors affected by the incident and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
“Unfortunately, during yesterday’s show, two guests had to be medically treated due to an accident, so we decided to end the show prematurely,” Puentez posted separately. “This served to protect all guests and employees. We wish the two a speedy recovery.”
The police investigation is still underway to determine if cryo cannons, which were deployed during Puentez’s set, caused the incident, among other things.
