Melding classical elements with bass-driven beats, Nikita, the Wicked drops off a savage new mix that’s perfect for spooky season.
Establishing himself as electronic music’s resident villain, Nikita, the Wicked emerged onto the scene with a captivatingly dark spin on bass music. His amalgamation of classical elements with cutting-edge electronic production has resulted in boundary-defying soundscapes, creating a subgenre of his own.
Since the beginning, I’ve coined my sound as the “Beautiful Darkness.” At its core, I like to call it elegant bass music.
Nikita, the Wicked
His self-proclaimed elegant bass music first began drawing attention in 2022 through his TikTok posts, where he shared remixes alongside his original tracks. By 2023, Nikita had released his debut EP on San Holo’s esteemed bitbird label.
Flash forward to now, and the San-Francisco-based producer has run up millions of streams on Spotify and landed appearances at Lost Lands, Beyond Wonderland Chicago, and this year’s edition of Hulaween. With a dynamic stage presence stemming from his ballroom dancing background, Nikita’s live performances command attention.
Drawing inspiration from Skrillex and rising producers MPH, Jkyl & Hyde, borne, and WINK, Nikita strives to be a part of the new era that’s transforming bass music. “I hope to continue to push the boundaries of my sound and reach my full artistic potential,” said Nikita. “I personally believe more experimentation will lead to the evolution of bass music. I’m just happy to play my part as a fan of the craft.”
Nikita’s most recent release, “Look” (feat. Emi Grace), provides the first glimpse into his impending EP, Blinded By Vanity. Ahead of its release in November, Nikita stopped by to deliver an exclusive mix for EDM Identity packed with cinematic edits and original tunes.
