Chicago house artist Andrew Emil channels his passion for storytelling through music and pays homage to the late Ron Carroll with his Fall Frequencies mix.
Andrew Emil is a multi-faceted maestro in the music realm whose legacy precedes him. Initially a classically trained percussionist, this Chicagoan developed a deep passion for house music and other electronic styles, leading to a career that has been filled with an immense number of releases and production credits. Over the years, Andrew Emil has done everything under the sun, from working with artists like Common and Gene Farris to launching projects like Change Request and launching electronic-orchestral imprint AstraVox Music.
Recent years have seen Andrew Emil’s releases grace labels like 4E&A, Colour and Pitch, S&S Records, and Cheap Talk. His latest release, “Can’t Stop,” landed on Salted Music and continued building on his sonic legacy. The tune, which saw Emil team up with Red Eye and legendary Chicago artist Ron Carroll, is dripping with euphoric disco elements, effectively doubling as a love letter to the birthplace of house music. It also marked one of the last releases for Carroll before he passed away later that month.
As the fall months begin to take hold, Andrew Emil has taken the reins of our Fall Frequencies mix series to whip up a story for house music lovers to embark on. Found inside are tracks and remixes from his various projects, along with curated gems from the likes of Malachi, Dego, Djoko, Fouk, The Deep, China Charmelon, and more.
Whenever I’m asked to create a DJ mix, I see it as an opportunity to tell a story, to weave together the sounds and styles that have influenced me along the way. My mixes often drift across genres and emotions, guided by instinct and season. As Chicago slips into fall, I chose a few of my own pieces and some timeless records that mirror this in-between feeling, that golden, reflective moment of the year. In loving memory of Ron Carroll.
