NRGetics stopped by to reflect on his origins and deliver an energizing guest mix for his Paradigm Shift debut!
Hard dance producer NRGetics has been showcasing the beauty of the harder styles for just a few years now, but he’s already become a staple of the growing Bay Area scene. Although he’s currently known for his signature style that fuses bright melodies with the classic, crunchy kicks of euphoric, his journey started from a much different place.
NRGetics was always drawn to extreme types of music as his first interest was heavy metal, specifically nu-metal and the then-new wave of American heavy metal. At the same time, Skrillex and Excision were championing bass music in the States, and NRGetics was always aware of these influences.
It wasn’t until 2018, however, when he first heard hardstyle on a RuneScape video on YouTube titled PeckishWhale’s Infernal Cape from Scratch – EP10. These hardstyle tracks were none other than Wildstylez’s remix of “Earth Meets Water” and “The Mechanisms of Nature” by Energyzed and Atmozfears.
I heard to those tracks and thought, ‘What the hell is that?’ It was unlike anything I’d ever heard. The melodies drew me in as a longtime fan of jazz, but the kicks and other sounds teased me with a sort of morbid curiosity, like, ‘Why do I like this?’

He never fully dove into the harder styles until 2020, when a friend sent him some records of different genres he’d been exploring. There were some harder tracks, which reminded NRGetics of the music he heard in the RuneScape video, prompting him to revisit the sound and eventually try his hand at the style.
Going into the pandemic, NRGetics had a strong interest in composing jazz and pop music. He made everything from drum and bass to house, funk, psytrance, happy hardcore, and more. Nonetheless, hardstyle remained a challenge, despite being enamored with the community, the dancing, the rich history, and the emotional depth of the music.

Despite the difficulty, he decided to continue on and not let anything get in the way of making the music he loved. “I made terrible hardstyle, which turned into bad hardstyle, which turned into okay hardstyle, and now, I make hardstyle which I’m proud to share with the world,” he told EDM Identity.
This journey led him to one of the biggest shows of his career as he was booked for direct support for Aussie icons Audiofreq and Code Black during Bass Vault‘s Bass Vault Weekender event in San Francisco on August 30. Landing this opportunity was a special privilege for NRGetics. It served as a full-circle moment for him.
Audiofreq was the first hard dance act I’d ever seen live. I’ve always regarded him as one of the most talented hardstyle producers ever, period. Code Black’s music has always touched me, and he’s directly inspired my own music. I love his melodies, and his kicks from the 2010s are archetypal. Together as Bioweapon, they have made classic tracks that I love to listen to daily. All around, this is a dream come true.

After the madness of Bass Vault Weekender, NRGetics was kind enough to stop by and provide us with his set from this past weekend for his debut on our hard dance mix series, Paradigm Shift! Whether you’re keeping the party going, returning to work, hitting the gym, or anything else, NRGetics has you covered with one hour of classic hardstyle bangers, reverse bass heaters, and golden melodies to help you ascend to Hard Dance Heaven.
You never know what’s going to happen in the hard dance scene because the MO has always been to innovate and push the boundaries. What I hope to see for hard dance soon is producers making more personal tracks — music for themselves, not just the audience. That’s what hardstyle means to me. Hard means sticking to your guns, no matter what, and being unrelenting in your values. Style means being original and doing what no one else can do.
