Steve Dekay Offers a Taste of Colombian Trance

in Exclusive Mix, Interview

Colombian trance artist Steve Dekay stopped by to shine a light on the scene in Medellín and dropped off a producer set to showcase his style.

Trance might not be the first genre you think about when it comes to what’s the most popular electronic style in Colombia, but Steve Dekay is intent on changing that. This Medellín-based prodigy has been making waves in the scene since his debut, garnering attention beyond the borders of his native South American country along the way. A glance at Steve Dekay’s discography proves that, with releases on major imprints such as FSOE, Suanda, Coldharbour Recordings, Black Hole Recordings, AVA White, Vandit, Armada Music, and more.

Yet Steve Dekay didn’t immediately find success in the scene, as he had a “good, yet challenging” journey while growing his career in his hometown. “Since there are very few artists in Medellín who make trance music, it’s a bit difficult to say, ‘Hey, I’m Steve and I’m here,’ because the general public is listening to other genres and styles,” he shared. “However, it’s been very good and rewarding. I’ve grown and matured as an artist here, so I owe a lot to this city for the love it’s always given me since day one.”

Steve Dekay’s maturation has become increasingly evident in recent years, especially in 2025. His tunes are rooted in trance but have an edge of techno that adds even more depth, opening the door to lush and energetic soundscapes. While each solo release is infused with his signature elements, Dekay also collaborates with other artists, including Indecent Noise, Skender, Paul Van Dyk, and, most recently, Mauro Picotto and CRW. He also created a remix of Armin van Buuren’s “Blue Fear,” which was featured on this year’s A State Of Trance Ibiza compilation.

I think [the scene in Colombia] is really good right now. New generations are coming along, and there’s a lot of talent out there that needs to be discovered. Names that are becoming important internationally, and there’s an increasing number of fans supporting the scene. So it’s getting better and better.

While the scene in Colombia is growing overall, Medellín holds a special place in Steve Dekay’s heart because many of his fans have been along for the ride with him since the beginning of his journey. “The support of these people has become very special, something unique every time I have the opportunity to give them a great show,” he shared. “The local public is increasingly supporting local talent, which makes it even more special, considering that foreign artists are often supported more than local ones.”

According to Steve Dekay, when you visit Medellín, there’s no doubt that you should check out Deep for a night out. “[Deep] is supporting new talents every weekend, also with international names, so a good night is guaranteed there,” he said. “But in general terms, the nightlife in Medellin is very fun, with many places to visit, so you are welcome!”

To give everyone a taste of his sound, Steve Dekay dropped off a producer set for the This Is Home series that’s filled to the brim with tunes that feature new sounds and different ideas he’s been working on over the past few months. “It’s a slightly dark sound but always melodic, aggressive, and very acidic in some tracks,” he shared. “There are some special tracks like the remix I did for Armin van Buuren’s “Blue Fear,” my collaboration with Mauro Picotto, “I Feel Love,” as well as some original tracks and bootlegs that have garnered great support from fans. So I hope you like it.”
