RE\MIND swung by to share some insight on how growing up in France impacted his journey as an electronic music producer and more.
France has birthed countless artists who have brought dynamic soundscapes into the scene, and RE\MIND is one of the latest to turn heads. He’s part of a new generation of producers who intend to add depth to their electronic grooves, finding a balance between storytelling and rhythm that’s intoxicating at its core.
Releases on Somatic Records and Calamar Records helped define RE\MIND’s early chapters as he gained his footing in the afro house scene. More recently, he’s been on quite a ride. Not only has RE\MIND released official remixes of tracks like Bob Sinclar’s “Digane” and Swedish House Mafia‘s “Wait So Long,” but he’s also dropped off a fresh tune on Titantic’s End, “Choro,” which saw him team up with JK.
As RE\MIND’s career begins to bubble up, it felt like the perfect time to dive into his roots. Colmar, his hometown, is a small and quiet place. It’s also distant from any of the big music scenes in France, especially since it is nearly 500 kilometers away from Paris. That didn’t stop him from falling in love with electronic beats, though. “Electronic music was something I discovered on my own, and it quickly became a revelation,” he shared. “Listening to artists like Tangerine Dream, Boards of Canada, Daft Punk, or Justice shaped my taste and made me want to create my own world of sound.”
The passion that RE\MIND developed for electronic music led him to start producing, and he’s since centered himself on creating soundscapes that blend precision, emotion, and cinematic depth. While these elements found in his afro house sound stem from his appreciation for other styles, they’re also rooted in genres like French Touch, which influenced him greatly over the years.
France has a strong history with electronic music. The French Touch influenced me a lot, especially the way it mixes groove, mystery and emotion. Today the scene feels very diverse even if I don’t go out often, I still feel that French identity in the sound.
RE\MIND
Unlike other artists who have made their homes close to dance music hubs, RE\MIND has bucked that trend by living off the beaten path. Colmar, which is on France’s border with Germany, doesn’t have much happening in it, but it allowed the connection to his music to be so much more. “I rarely go to clubs, so my connection to this music is more personal,” RE\MIND shared. “It’s something I’ve always lived through records and through creating in the studio, rather than a local scene.”
When RE\MIND does go out, it’s with intention. He told us that he looks for places with a real atmosphere or a strong excitement for the artist performing. “I’m more drawn to hidden or underground spots rather than big, obvious clubs,” he said. “For me, it’s never about the venue itself, but about those moments when the sound and the crowd create something unique.”
If you listen to RE\MIND’s discography, you’re sure to feel that level of intimacy that influences his sound, but where it truly flies is when he’s behind the decks, mixing a set. To give you a slice of that perfection, he’s spun up a mix for our This Is Home series, so press play and stay tuned for more from this fast-rising French artist.
This mix is one with a few surprises. I played some unreleased tracks I’m really proud of. It reflects my influences, from melodic and afro house to more cinematic textures, always with that tension I love in music.
