Two people were killed and six others injured in a mass shooting that took place last night in downtown Los Angeles, where several parties were taking place.

Tragedy has struck the underground scene in Los Angeles, as a mass shooting was reported to have taken place last night in the area of 14th Place and Griffith Avenue, where multiple parties were taking place. Two people were killed and six others were injured in the shooting.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the shooting happened around 1am on Monday morning. ABC7 reports that LAPD officers on patrol in the area had already shut down an unauthorized party earlier on Sunday night, which led to the arrest of a person who was in possession of a firearm. Officers returned to that scene a few hours later after reports of shots being fired surfaced.

Upon their return, LAPD officers found eight people struck by gunfire, including 29-year-old Gregory Derisso, who died at the scene, and a 52-year-old woman who passed away after being taken to the hospital. The six other victims, who range from 26 to 62 years old, are currently hospitalized, with two in critical condition.

Early reports from KTLA5 and other outlets tied the shooting to an unofficial HARD Summer afterparty that was hosted by Framed Events. The event promoter quickly responded to the claims, dispelling the rumors and stating that their event happened a few blocks away from where the shooting took place. Corrections to stories from those outlets are currently being made.

“Unfortunately, some early news reports inaccurately associated our event due to event listings,” Framed Events said in their statement. “Let us be absolutely clear: Everyone at our event was safe, and our team ensured a secure environment from start to finish.” The promoters went on to say that they take pride in how they care for their guests, and also warned those who party in downtown Los Angeles in the future not to linger around the area due to its unpredictability.

We urge other collectives to echo this message—Let’s keep our events safe inside the spaces we create. Finally, to the media—we see how quickly rave culture is scapegoated in these moments. Please check your facts. We’re here to build community, not chaos.

This is a developing story. EDM Identity sends its condolences to the family and friends of those who have passed away, and well wishes to those who are currently hospitalized.
