Breakaway Ohio Defined Fitness and EDM in One Space

Breakaway Ohio was a fantastic weekend filled with top-tier sets, a welcoming crowd, and fitness experiences that left a lasting impression.

I can never resist a weekend filled with music and fitness, and the combination seemed unattainable until I attended Breakaway Ohio. I had heard nothing but great things about Breakaway Music Festival on social media, with their jam-packed lineups and clips that truly showcase feral raver energy. So, when the opportunity arose to tackle Breakaway Ohio with the Celsius team, it was a no-brainer that I had to jump at the chance.

Breakaway Music Festival has partnered with Celsius under the Celsius Essential Vibes initiative to create a bridge between music festivals and fitness, promoting well-being and physical activity. As a Southern California raver who prioritizes hitting the gym and staying active, teaming up with my favorite fitness brand for a festival weekend made perfect sense. All I knew was that I was signing myself up for a lineup featuring Dom Dolla, Odd Mob, Deorro, Matroda, SOFI TUKKER, and a whole lot of sweaty workouts to start each day.

Each morning kicked off with energy-fueled workouts that had us dripping in sweat before even setting foot near the main stage. The rest of the day was packed with dancing, connecting with new people, and catching unreal sets that kept the vibes high. Breakaway Ohio gave me a new way to experience festival culture, where pushing your limits in the gym and on the dance floor go hand in hand.

Traveling from California to Ohio was a knock to my system.

Traveling to Columbus was definitely a journey. We were up at 5am, running on nothing but good vibes and Celsius, heading straight from Los Angeles to Ohio the day before the festival. Once we landed, we made our way to the hotel, and I couldn’t help but take in all the open countryside, green trees, and fresh air. There’s something about being in a new area that always excites me, especially trying to guess who else might be headed to the festival.

Waking up on Day 1 was a bit rough. The time difference hit me hard, especially as we rallied for an 8am Orange Theory class before even setting foot on the festival grounds, but we were all hands on deck for the full fitness experience. We walked from the hotel to the studio through a drizzle, hyping each other up like a little girl gang on a mission. I was feeling both nerves and excitement as we walked into that group class.

The class itself was amazing. The instructor maintained a high energy level with EDM tracks and Celsius in hand, striking a solid balance between encouragement and challenge. From the rowers and dumbbells to the treadmill sprints, each round had us working up a sweat, with just enough breaks to reset. I wouldn’t have made it through without the girls cheering me on and the content I had to capture during my workout. After wrapping up that hour, we were starving and ventured out for food to refuel before heading to the Breakaway Ohio grounds for the first day of the festival.

Heading into the venue, I kept an open mind and was hyped for a new festival experience. I had my eyes set on catching sets from Odd Mob, Matroda, SOFI TUKKER, Dom Dolla, and BUNT. The community vibe was everything—ravers in their best fits, flow artists lighting up the dancefloor, and nonstop energy all around.

Beyond the music, the festival grounds were filled with brand activations from BeatBox, Starry, and my all-time favorite, Celsius, handing out free samples and goodies. Running around the venue, seeing all the smiling faces, and interviewing attendees is always one of the most magical parts of capturing content on-site.

What I wasn’t ready for was the storm that hit mid-set during Matroda. Just as the energy was peaking at the mainstage, the evacuation notice came in, and everyone scrambled to take cover inside the stadium. Surprisingly, this turned out to be one of my favorite moments from the first day. A bunch of us huddled together under the bleachers, singing and vibing through the rain, holding on to the moment like it was ours to keep. It was pure magic—just one of those core memories you don’t see coming.

Once the skies cleared, Matroda jumped right back on the decks and kept the night rolling. SOFI TUKKER’s live performance brought it all—guitar solos, powerhouse vocals, and pure emotion. We raced over to BUNT. for a dose of melodic heaven, then made it just in time for the Dom Dolla set that absolutely tore it up. Somehow, we still had enough energy to rally for the afterparty with Odd Mob, and he did not disappoint.

The second day saw us rise and shine with Barry’s before catching the final sets at the festival.

I was genuinely possessed by the rave gods when I woke up for the final day and made it to our last fitness class with Barry’s. The fun part about this class was having a live DJ in the room, fueling us through intense circuits that included resistance bands, weight training, and a whole lot of serotonin. Like I mentioned before, these classes were designed to boost your endorphins and give you that natural energy to power through a full festival day. If you could handle it, that is.

The last day was a complete blur. I was fully focused on creating content that captured the Breakaway Ohio atmosphere from an attendee’s point of view. Victoria and I walked around the venue and made our way to the silent disco area to interview festivalgoers. We met a group of girls who had just graduated and shared how this festival felt like the perfect celebration. It was that kind of youthful energy that reminded me why festivals feel so special. It’s the love for the music, the freedom, and the people around you that bring this community to life.

After wrapping content, we grabbed food and ran into Deorro’s set. His mix of Latin beats and familiar verses hit hard. I could not believe how happy I felt hearing Spanish household songs I grew up with being played on that stage. From there, we ended up at AFROJACK’s set to get ready for the weekend’s closer. Out of pure luck, we made it into the VIP area for Marshmello, and it ended up being my favorite set of the entire festival. Fireworks lit up the night sky, the crowd was electric, and I felt fully in the moment.

Being a part of a festival that blended fitness and a solid lineup was something special.

Breakaway Music Festival does a fantastic job curating a weekend that has something for every type of raver—from house lovers vibing to Odd Mob, to Levity bringing the dubstep madness, and ISOxo closing things out with a trap-fueled punch. Every festivalgoer I met had a smile on their face and welcomed others with an aura of excitement that never faded throughout the weekend.

Fitness has always been a major part of my life, and seeing Celsius collaborate with festivals like Breakaway truly added a fresh energy to the crowd. It was such a pleasure to work with a team that values both fun and wellness, and who knows how to start the day strong with group fitness classes and high vibes. This experience reminded me of the dynamic nature of the rave scene. It’s about the music, community, and showing up as your best self.

Breakaway Ohio will forever have a place in my rave memories. From sweaty mornings to stormy sing-alongs under the bleachers, it was a weekend of pure energy, connection, and unforgettable moments.
