Tomorrowland Shares Contingency Plan After Fire Consumes Mainstage

The organizers of Tomorrowland have shared two potential scenarios for how the Boom, Belgium festival might move forward.

In the wake of a structure fire that destroyed the Tomorrowland Mainstage less than two days before the festival was slated to commence, organizers have outlined how they plan to move forward with its first weekend, which runs from July 18-20 in Boom, Belgium.

In an official statement that begins by noting that they’re “still devastated,” but moved by “truly heartwarming” well wishes from across the globe, the Tomorrowland team announced that there are two potential outcomes of the disaster. The first is that they’re able to secure the Mainstage area with a “new setup,” which would allow them to open as planned for all visitors and ticket types. According to organizers, “hundreds of people are working tirelessly” toward this end result, and “it’s a race against time.”

The statement then explains that, failing that, the Gathering Stage at DreamVille — Tomorrowland’s onsite camping area — will host all of the artists originally scheduled to play on the Mainstage on Friday, July 18. In this outcome, DreamVille visitors will not have access to the rest of the festival grounds, but they will be open to “Friday Day Pass, Global Journey Hotel Packages, and Full Madness Pass holders.”

No matter the scenario, organizers say that doors to the festival grounds will open at 2pm on Friday instead of the event’s original start time of 12pm. They expect to be able to hold firm to all of their original scheduling by Saturday. Importantly, neither scenario calls for the cancellation of any day on either weekend of the festival.

While rumors abound, the fire’s official cause has yet to be identified. None of the roughly 1,000 Tomorrowland staff members on site were injured as a result of the blaze, but emergency agencies evacuated nearby residents and encouraged others to keep their windows and doors closed.
