Beloved melodic house artist Anderholm has passed away following a lengthy battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Anderholm, real name Yevheniy Hrubashchuk, has passed away today at the age of 30 following a battle with cancer. “After a long fight with brain cancer, he has passed away,” his family shared on Instagram. “His music remains, a beautiful reminder of his soul.”
The Ukrainian artist began his journey as a DJ and producer in 2011 under the Orbion alias. Initially focused on the sounds of progressive trance, he achieved early success with releases on Alter Ego, which included tracks such as “Via Prima,” “All In Your Hands,” and “Escape,” as well as Enhanced Music’s sub-label Colorize. In 2017, he shifted gears toward the Anderholm moniker and quickly became renowned for his deep, melodic house soundscapes on This Never Happened.
Anderholm made a profound impact on the This Never Happened community. Not only was he one of the first artists to be signed by Lane 8, but his soundscapes helped define the earliest years of the imprint as the sound of melodic house was ushered into the forefront of the scene.
“RIP to a beautiful soul, gone far too soon but never to be forgotten,” Lane 8 shared in his post on Instagram. “Anderholm gave us so much incredible music over the years going back to the very beginning of TNH. Beyond that Yevhen was an extremely humble, down to earth, passionate person who truly loved making music and connecting with those who shared his passion.”
Anderholm made his mark on the global scene in 2017 when he remixed Lane 8’s “Fingerprint,” which was released alongside “Nocturne” on the first volume of the label’s Root To Branch series. He became a frequent face on This Never Happened since then, dropping EPs including Flight of the Sparrow, Fractures, and Rather Be Lost. Anderholm also collaborated with Lane 8 on two phenomenal tracks, “Bluebird” and “Roll Call.”
His final single, “See How It Ends,” was released in January of this year and featured his signature blend of soft textures and soul-stirring vocals.
