Tomorrowland is breathing new life into its Paperworld theme for a foray into China, specifically the Hero Dome in Shanghai.
Given last week’s statements from Thai officials, it seemed like Tomorrowland was gearing up to announce its first event in Thailand any day now. The festival brand’s organizers clearly like to keep people guessing, as they’ve instead announced their debut in China will take the form of an indoor event at the Hero Dome in Shanghai on Saturday, November 22.
The Magic of Tomorrowland, as it’s billed, sees Tomorrowland partner with Hero Esports and INS LAND. The former is the biggest eSports brand in China, hosting 7,000 matches per year that collectively reach an audience of 800 million. INS stands for “Into Nothing Serious,” and INS LAND is an interactive experience destination located in Shanghai’s Fuxing Park.
“This landmark show marks a new chapter in the history of Tomorrowland, blending Tomorrowland’s global headliners and signature elements with the next wave of Chinese talent — reimagined through the lens of China and brought to life in one unforgettable show,” reads a statement from Tomorrowland.
The Boom, Belgium-based event organizer further noted that The Magic of Tomorrowland is intended to be the first of many events that bring acts represented by its One World Artists agency to Chinese stages, as well as bringing Chinese acts to Tomorrowland events abroad. It will adopt the theme of Paperworld, which Tomorrowland introduced this year.
Tomorrowland’s expansion into China marks the latest step in its ambitious global conquest. It has previously materialized in the form of events like Tomorrowland Brasil and Tomorrowland Winter, the latter of which is held in the French Alps.
Tomorrowland has stated that lineup and ticketing information will be released in September. Register early for exclusive pre-sale deals on the official website for The Magic of Tomorrowland.
