The Sant Josep City Council has found Diplo guilty of hosting an illegal event in an environmentally protected area of Ibiza.
One year after he promoted an illegal party on the Cala d’Hort beach in Ibiza‘s Sant Josep de sa Talaia village, Diplo must now reportedly pay a fine to the tune of €300,000.
In June 2024, the world-famous DJ and producer with millions of social media followers made multiple posts promoting the party in spite of laws preventing “parties, concerts and shows on the cliffs” of Cala d’Hort. Hundreds of people are believed to have attended the gathering. Following an investigation by the Sant Josep police, who reviewed videos shared by Diplo (real name Thomas Wesley Pentz) among other evidence, the case has been resolved with the fine’s issuance.
Typically, fines for such activity would range from €6,000-100,000. But in cases where significant damage is done to the nearby environment, they can amount to as much as €450,000.
The Ibiza Leisure Association had spoken out against the party immediately after it took place. “Ibiza Leisure Association has always demanded that its members fully respect the rules of coexistence with the resident population and works within the sector and in collaboration with the Administration to promote excellence,” their statement read. “Events like those that occurred in Cala d’Hort are tremendously damaging to the island’s leisure sector.”
Meanwhile, Ibiza staple Sa Trinxa is no longer allowed to host DJ performances “in accordance with the nature park regulations,” according to a recent statement issued by the beachside bar. This is in spite of massive superclubs like Pacha, Ushuaïa, and the newly opened [UNVRS] continuing to operate with relatively few issues.
Pentz has not publicly responded to the Sant Josep Town Council’s decision at the time of writing.
