Ibiza Council Says “No More DJs” at Island Staple Sa Trinxa

According to longtime Sa Trinxa resident Jon Sa Trinxa, the beachside Ibiza staple is no longer allowed to host DJ performances.

Some say that the face of the White Isle has changed beyond recognition now that DJs are reportedly no longer allowed to play at beachside Ibiza bar and restaurant Sa Trinxa.

The news came courtesy of the club’s longtime resident DJ, Jonathan Grey, who performs under the stage name Jon Sa Trinxa. Earlier today, June 17, he posted on Facebook: “Ibiza cancelled. No more DJs at Sa Trinxa.”

In a later Instagram Story, Sa Trinxa confirmed the news. “Due to heavy force, Sa Trinxa suspends DJ sessions in accordance with the nature park regulations,” reads a translation. “However, we’ll still have music. Thank you very much for your understanding and loyalty.”

Sa Trinxa — which roughly translates to “the one who drinks quietly” in Ibicenco slang — may not be a music destination at the scale of White Isle superclubs like Pacha Ibiza and Ushuaïa Ibiza. But a common sentiment among locals is that its intimate atmosphere makes it all the more important of a fixture. It opened its doors on the scenic Las Salinas beach in 1978, and it later became a hotbed for the fusion of styles known as Balearic beat, and largely popularized by the late DJ Alfredo.

“End of days stuff this is,” wrote one commenter. “Last one out of there remember to turn the lights out! Meanwhile over at [recently opened Ibiza superclub] UNVRS the simultaneous phone filming record has just been smashed again!”

Another wrote: “It is with great sadness that I’ve just read about the order by the authorities to ban music at Sa Trinxa. I believe that this is the last piece of an endless and timeless commercialization process of Ibiza.”

Neither Grey nor Sa Trinxa’s team immediately responded to EDM Identity’s request for comment.
