Rewind Festival 2023 in Perthshire, Scotland was the site of an attack that left university lecturer Antonio Grant permanently blind in one eye.
A Glasgow high court has sentenced two men to a combined ten years in prison for a brutal attack at the 2023 edition of Rewind Festival at Scone Palace in Perthshire, Scotland that severely injured a university lecturer.
In his sentencing, Lord Renucci KC found that Patrick Kerr, 33, and Simon Tierney, 38, physically engaged Antonio Grant, 53, in July 2023. Grant is said to have been walking away from Tiernay, with whom he had a “polite” conversation earlier, but who became hostile after Grant “refused his offer of a chip.”
Grant was punched in the head and then knocked to the ground, where the assailants continued to punch and kick him before the festival’s security staff intervened. He suffered the permanent loss of vision in his right eye, which may still need to be removed, as well as six broken teeth and facial trauma that required the installation of a metal plate.
In his sentencing, Renucci said that Tiernay and Kerr acted out a “brutal, cowardly alcohol-fuelled attack on a vulnerable victim,” adding that “The impact and consequences of your actions have been shattering to him and will be lifelong.”
Tiernay was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison, and Kerr was sentenced to five-and-a-half. The pair, who both hail from Glenrothes, Fife, are also subject to a non-harassment order that prohibits them from any sort of contact with Grant for an indefinite period of time.
Rewind Festival has taken place at Scone Palace since 2013. Over the years, the ’80s-themed festival has billed artists such as Boy George, The Human League, Village People, and Disco Inferno.
