Deltech: "There’s No Better Place for Inspiration Than a Rave"

UK house duo Deltech swung by to discuss their journey, releasing music on Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations, and upcoming projects they have in store.

From Derby, UK’s underground scene, Deltech, consisting of George Taylor and Luke Gorse, first met in 2019 through mutual friends at a local pub. Fresh off of different adventures, they quickly bonded over a shared love of dance music.

“It didn’t take long to realise we were both into music,” Luke recalled. “George had just started learning how to produce, and it was something I’d wanted to learn as well. We’d spend hours on FaceTime making beats, bouncing ideas off each other, and figuring out how to use Ableton.” After a few b2bs, forming Deltech felt like the obvious next step.

First, the duo began to release on respected boutique labels. Tracks such as “Belief” on NastyFunk and “Rythmic Danca” on CUFF showcased the duo’s direction. By 2023, they dropped peak-time weapons such as the Swingers EP on Distortion and “Getting Weird” for Nervous Records.

Scoring their first release on Jamie Jones‘ Hot Creations was a huge moment, with George saying, “It was mental; it didn’t feel real at first.” Luke still laughs at his initial doubt when he heard the news. “I remember you ringing me, and I was having none of it,” he chimed in. Their debut on the imprint, mid-2024’s I Don’t Need That EP, was huge.

This April, they returned to Hot Creations to drop Funnnk, a two-tracker built for peak time energy. Luke recalled that “Funk U Want” was the first track that got signed. “We sent it over through Trackstack and got a reply from Jamie saying he liked it and was going to test it out,” Luke said. “Not long after, he asked if we had another track to go with it. We sent ‘Funnnk,’ and he loved it.”

The duo has learned to trust their instincts on where each track belongs across a catalog that spans labels such as Repopulate Mars, Nothing Else Matters, Toolroom, Sola, and Moxy Muzik. George says that once they have the core elements of a track down they get a good idea of which label it would suit best. That confidence produced standout releases like the Groove With It EP on Repopulate Mars and the club-ready Work That EP on Nothing Else Matters.

Inspiration is never far away for Deltech, either. “There’s no better place for inspiration than a rave,” George shared. “You come home full of ideas.” That feedback loop between sweaty dancefloors and late-night studio sessions has kept their sound evolving. “Solardo has been a massive influence on us,” Luke continued. “We have been listening to their music since we first started raving.” Those garage chords and funky organ stabs became a signature in Deltech’s tunes.

As for the future, Luke shared that their dream collaboration would be with Jamie Jones, while George teased an ambitious release and show schedule. “We’ve got new music dropping every month for the foreseeable and some big shows coming up with Groovebox and also Paradise at [UNVRS],” he said as the conversation ended.

In under six years, Deltech has gone from pub-corner collaborators to in-demand tastemakers. Their seamless blend of classic house elements and funky bass with modern tech house earned them plenty of support from fans and heavyweights alike. Now, with Funnnk out on Hot Creations and a steady stream of new music on the horizon, Deltech’s trajectory is only up from here.
